Our Journey
Founded in August 1962 by visionary educator and psychologist Dr. V. V. (Appa) Pendse, Jnana Prabodhini began as a unique enrichment program known as Prabodhashala. Students from various schools in Pune used to gather for evening activities including sports, self-study, discussions, and study circles conducted by Appa and his colleagues. By June 1969, this pioneering experiment evolved into a full-time Higher Secondary School, the Prashala.
The school was distinguished by its innovative curriculum that bridged the gap between academic theory and national reality.
For nearly six decades, we have remained committed to being a "School with a Purpose." We believe that education is far more than a race for grades or the mere gathering of information. Our mission—Man-making for nation-building—guides every aspect of our pedagogy, so students don't just study Science or History; they learn them as tools to solve India's most pressing problems. Our unique educational model emphasizes a four-sided development process: physical, intellectual, emotional, and motivational. By harmoniously blending modern science with Indian spiritualism, Jnana Prabodhini has emerged as a "Multiplier Model" and a "Pace-Setter" in the Indian educational landscape. This57-year legacy is a testament to our dedication to nurturing a generation of leaders who are technically competent, ideologically motivated, and ready to respond to the nation’s call to change the face of India for the better.

Establishment of a full-fledged school.
Passing out of the first CBSE 11th batch.
Present Director Hon. Dr. Girishrao S. Bapat belongs to this batch.
Project Methodology introduced in the school curriculum.
Start of Girls' School. Group Tasks became a part of the curriculum.
Permanent affiliation was granted by CBSE.
Structural change: 10+2 pattern was adopted.
Gun Vikas Yojana – a scheme for skills enhancement was introduced in the curriculum.
Multi-text teaching was introduced for 7th standard.
Abhivyakti Vikas Yojana – a programme for development of aptitude in Arts and Crafts was introduced.
Self-study skills became an integral part of the curriculum.
Projects based on futurology were introduced.
History textbooks were written by teachers for 5th and 7th standard students.
Agrani Yojana – a project for leadership development became a regular and systematic feature of the curriculum.
Multiple levels were introduced in 5th to 8th standards for mastery learning in English and Mathematics.
Cumulative Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) was introduced.
Special Purpose Groups (SPG) were introduced.
School administration became fully computerised.
Assigned mentors for each grade along with the class teachers.
Dhadpad Prayogshala (Tinkering Lab) was started.
Special Interest Group (SIG) was introduced.
An all-days part-time counselling unit was established.
Documentation and Research Unit was established.
Dhadpad Prayogshala was recognised as an ATL Lab.
Competency Based Evaluation (CBE) was introduced.
Multiple levels were introduced to teach Marathi language for 5th standard students.
Vocational Education courses were added to the curriculum.
The story of Jnana Prabodhini is a living chronicle of dedication and sacrifice. Our legacy is anchored in the "Chandan-like"(sandalwood) life of our founder, Dr. V.V. (Appasaheb) Pendse, who spent every moment of his existence devoted to the dream of a national renaissance. This spirit of selfless work was carried forward by his successor, Dr. V.C. (Anna) Tamhankar, whose dynamic leadership ensured that the institution remained a"Chirvasant" (eternal spring) of energy, innovation, and integrity. We define Excellence not merely as a score on a sheet, but as the relentless drive to surpass merit in every task, no matter how small. This commitment was formally recognized in 1975 when JnanaPrabodhini was honored with the National Excellence Award, signifying its role as a "Multiplier Model" for the Indian educational landscape. For us, excellence is a spiritual pursuit where the quality of work reflects the purity of intent. At the heart of this legacy are our Kalyan-Mitras (Mentors)—highly qualified scholars and professionals who have chosen a life of service over lucrative careers. Their dedicated lives serve as the ultimate textbook for our students, embodying the mantra "Enter to Learn, Go Out to Serve." We carry forward a tradition where honesty, hard work, and spiritual communion form the backbone of all our actions. Every graduate we produce is a part of this living monument of selfless work, dedicated to the final vision of our founder: "Roop Paltu Deshache"—to change the face of the nation for the better.
